CLARITY - NINE

Today we ask the archetype of

The Hermit

to provide us clarity.

Widen your perspective.

Be with the curiosity of not fully knowing what the card means before you jump to my interpretation or the question of the day.

Pictured are samples of this card from several decks. My own watercolor interpretation on the left and then cards from my collection ( left to right top to bottom); The Illuminated Tarot by Catherine Keegan, Modern Witch Tarot by Lisa Sterle, Klimt Tarot by Lo Scarabeo, Zillich Tarot by Christine Zillich, 5ct Tarot by Madam Clara, White Sage Tarot by Theresa Hutch, Ridder White Golden Deck

“It is not what you look at that matters, it is what you see”
— - Henry David Thoreau

Here is what I think…The Hermit is a card about individuation and personal truth. It is all about the search for clarity and meaning out of chaos. It is an identity card, asking us who we really are and what we really know. In some ways, this card might be the poster child for clarity. Go within, get down to your truth of it, the truth only you know! Although it can feel like hard and lonely work, sometimes we have to go within and shine a light to find what we are seeking, and the hermit invites us to do just that.

  • self-reliance

  • Introspection

  • inner light

  • identity

Meditate on the question.

The HErmit asks…

What have you learned?

*guided imagery is not universally appropriate and sometimes it can be activating for those whose nervous systems hold trauma. Please be gentle with yourself.
If it works for you, do it. If not, do what does.

That inner voice has both gentleness and clarity. So to get to authenticity, you really keep going down to the bone, to the honesty, and the inevitability of something.
— Meredith Monk

BE CLEAR WITH YOURSELF.

In your journal, sketch or write about a part of you that has been illuminated. What has it taught you?

TAROT BONUS: If you have a tarot deck and want to explore more about “seeking” in certain areas of your life, look at the minor arcana nines.

Nine of pentacles for clarity around work/money/family - Where did I feel most myself?
Nine of swords for clarity around mental issues - How have I been speaking to myself?
Nine of wands for clarity around creative and spiritual things- What have I done to defend myself?
Nine of Cups for clarity around love and connection- What makes it safe for me to explore inner worlds?

Is it making sense yet?
